Per Diem Facts |
|
Per diem is a tax break to assist U.S. residents unable to find work in their area. To qualify, a consultant must maintain a residence more than 100 miles from the work site and be fiscally responsible for the residence. AESI handles per diem on an hourly basis, up to 40 hours/week. For example, in Santa Clara County, the per diem is approximately $27/hour for 40 hours/week. A consultant earning $50/hour would only be taxed on $23/hour for the first 40 hours/week; $27/hour would be untaxed. For time beyond 40 hours/week, the full $50/hour would be taxed. AESI’s method for managing per diem, is designed to limit the consultant’s exposure and maximize the benefit to the consultant. For further details about per diem rates, see the U.S. Government’s web site for Travel Management Policy at http://policyworks.gov. |
